If you buy a $500 car for yourself, you are going to have all kinds of problems and it will be constant and it will very quickly cost more than the vehicle is worth. You need to understand that you're getting what you pay for. Are the Selmer C元00, Selmer 1401, or Selmer Bundy 577 any good? Other potentially helpful information is that I'm just playing clarinet for fun in a couple different bands at my university, and don't plan on doing much past that.Įdit: Upon some searching on Reverb, I found some used name brand clarinets under $200 that have been recently inspected and worked on. If it is a fair price, and if those are all things that I really should get repaired, would it be worth it to just buy another clarinet, either new or used, that's under $265? Other than those two sticking keys, the clarinet was still playable (the pads and corks definitely weren't in the best shape though).

I brought it to a highly-rated repair shop, and the repairman said that it needs a full repad, new corks, and a couple other things fixed, totaling to $265.

might as well get something good that you won't need to upgrade from later.A place for all the Clarinet players/music lovers out there!įeel totally free to post any cool links of clarinet music or videos as well. they save my life durring long sustained notes on fingerings that sound bad, as well as making scales a lot easier.ĭefinitely not worth getting i think. it gives you a good starting place for being somewhere near in tune, and then you can tweak for the circumstances. i never realized untill i got to highschool and played on a two-piece neck how nice it is for tuning- you don't take it appart every time, so your settings stay more. but then if it was being stupid and wouldnt go in(i played on i think 4 vito basses total so i had a wide range of experiences), there's no cork to grease.
i had issues with teh neck not staying put and wiggling up and down as i played, because the screw bent itself weirdly and wouldn't tighten right. the neck fits in with a metal joint, not a cork. though thats mostly personal preference, it makes it a lot harder to carry, as well as less tuning-opportunities. things i don't like about the vitos specifically: also, i've had experiences with vitos deciding not to play, or getting messed up easily, though that may have been a school-horn-issue.
i started on a vito soprano clarinet, and played vito basses for my two years of middle school-my first years on bass clarinet. while they are not expensive, as far as bass clarinets go, they don't sound very good (in my oppinon), and are more of a beginner level instrument. If, when you say you plan on staying with it, you mean through college, or beyond, i would definitely say that a vito would NOT be a good investment.
